Hersil Law Offices, SC has maintained a distinguished reputation even with the changing structure and practices of the legal services industry. Here is some important information on Attorney Hersil.

 GERALD J. HERSIL is a 1995 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School where he received his Juris Doctorate and a 1991 graduate of the University of Wisconsin La Crosse where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/Pre-Law. While in law school he worked in the Governor’s Office as a legal assistant and the coordinator of the Governor’s Board of Pardons and Extraditions.

Attorney Hersil has been practicing law in Merrill since 2001.  He began practicing law in Dodge County after graduating from law school and worked in private practice for six years before coming to Merrill.  

Attorney Hersil has over 25 years of legal experience.  He appears in court on a daily basis on motion hearings and trials.  He has conducted numerous complex legal hearings including trials to the court and in front of a jury.  Hersil has appeared on cases in both Federal District Courts in Wisconsin and has represented clients in counties all across Wisconsin.

Attorney Hersil believes very strongly in the need to give back to our communities and help them grow.  

Hersil was presented with the prestigious National Jefferson Award in 2019 .  This honor recognized his numerous contributions to the community and his volunteer work.  Attorney Hersil created the Friends of Vincent Foundation, LLC, which is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to help promote children's activities in Merrill and the surrounding communities.  Through their annual fundraiser, the “Haunted Sawmill”, the Friends of Vincent Foundation is able to provide scholarships for children to attend and participate in activities and events which they might not otherwise be able to afford.  The "Haunted Sawmill" is an award winning Halloween attraction which draws thousands of people to Merrill. 

Attorney Hersil also donates his free time to teach children how to be leaders and better community members .  He has organized and led many trips to the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota.

Attorney Hersil has been involved in many other service clubs and organizations. He has been the President of Kiwanis and the National Exchange Club and the Lincoln County Bar Association.  

Hersil been recognized for his strong support and advocacy on behalf of abused and battered people by H.A.V.E.N.

His primary areas of practice focus on all aspects of family law including divorce, custody matters, child support and adoption. He also works on criminal defense matters, and many other areas of the law.
